Smoothies are something that I keep serving at my house no matter the time of year. This spirulina protein smoothie I tend to make right after my workouts. I like the fact that it is high in protein and has detox properties that come from the spirulina.

I love using spirulina even though its flavor can be over powering sometimes. The trick is to mix it with other ingredients that will help mask its flavor. In this case I used mint which worked like a charm.

Spirulina is a great source of dietary protein, B-vitamins and iron. Spirulina is also very high in calcium, which is perfect for children, but what I like the most is that it binds with heavy metals in the body which helps remove them. We all know with all the toxins around us as well as in our food supply this ingredient can help detoxify our bodies…

If you haven’t had a chance to incorporate spirulina into your diet it is never to late to start. You can add it on smoothies, cereal, yogurt, pancake and waffle batter etc a great superfood ingredient to have stocked in your pantry.

For this spirulina protein smoothie recipe visit my friends at Nuts.com They have organic spirulina which is the one that I recommend. You can also find many of the ingredients you will need for your healthy cooking and baking so make sure you browse around.

Enjoy!

If you have been following me for a while you know that I love making popsicles. These mint chocolate popsicles are a slightly different take since I added a powerful ingredient.

If you like making popsicles, which I do, especially over the summer, you are going to love these mint chocolate popsicles. I added spirulina.

It is said to be used for attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), stress, and fatigue. It also has protein, B-vitamins and iron. Besides using it for these popsicles you can add it to yogurt and smoothies. It has an intense green color as well as flavor, however, by mixing it with other ingredients it helps to mask its. My kids can’t even tell there is spirulina in any of the treats I make with it.

Making popsicles is a great way to introduce spirulina to your friends and family as it gives the popsicles a beautiful green tint and the flavor of the spirulina is not noticeable at all.

If you would like to have the recipe visit Nuts.com and go directly to the mint chocolate popsicles. You will be able to purchase the spirulina there and many more healthy ingredients as well. They have nuts, flours, spreads, treats and much more. They also cater especial diets like gluten free , vegan, dairy free etc

If you have never tried it this is the perfect recipe. This detox spirulina smoothie is super refreshing and a great way to start the day.

Spirulina not only has 8 essential and 10 non-essential amino acids, as well as high levels of beta-carotene, vitamin B12, iron, calcium, phosphorus but it is also a great source of antioxidants, and B-vitamins.

Convince yet? Spirulina has a great array of powerful nutrient properties. I am glad I invested in this superfood.

Because spirulina has a very strong flavor you have to find a way to masks its flavor a bit. In this detox spirulina smoothie I used lemon juice which does just that plus it gives it the smoothie a delicious refreshing taste.

My kids drank it so I anticipate you will like it too.

You can also use spirulina in an array of recipes such as pancake and waffle batter, energy bites, bars, ice cream etc I am going to try to incorporate more recipe in the blog so that you can take advantage of this awesome ingredient.

For the detox spirulina smoothie recipe make sure you visit nuts.com. If you are starting to eat healthier or need any ingredients for your healthy recipes you will find them all here. Just browse their many nuts, flours, dried fruits and other products to find what you are looking for.

Enjoy!

I am so in love with this easy, vegan and healthier spirulina vegan ice cream that I wished I had quadrupled the batch. Next time I will for sure.

Have you tried spirulina before? This ingredients is a power house antioxidant. I normally use it for my smoothies but now I will be using it for when needing to use green food coloring too. A little goes a long way so this ingredient will last you quite a bit.

This spirulina vegan ice cream version doesn’t need an ice cream maker. You could use one but if you don’t have one just freeze and thaw the ice cream for 10 minutes before serving.

My kids really enjoyed this ice cream version. They couldn’t even tell I added spirulina. I know I will be making this ice cream recipe for time to come. I will come up with different variations soon, so stay tuned!

To get spirulina and this spirulina vegan ice cream recipe go on over to my friends at Nuts.com Make sure you check all their products.
Why haven’t I used wheat grass and spirulina before with the great properties these two ingredients have to offer? I just don’t know but better late than never!!

I have heard that wheat grass shots can cost up to $5, just crazy although by no means I consider the container I bought cheap, more economical yes, but not cheap. The container I bought contains 30 servings, and was $17.99, but I know it will last us for a while. In any event, I think it is much better than $5 dollars a shot for sure!!

The texture of the smoothie was really ideal with the avocados and frozen bananas, which by the way it was the first time I used avocados for smoothies, and I really liked it. Also, if you like, you can add some fresh mint to give the smoothie a more refreshing taste…..just a thought :-)

Properties of two of the powerful ingredients used in this smoothie

Spirulina: Is a water plant (Seaweed)

Contains high concentrations of 18 Vitamins and Minerals

Rich in Chlorophyll

Contains ALL essential amino acids

65% of Spirulina is Protein

Rich in gamma-linoleic acid (GLA) – an anti-inflammatory Omega 6 Fatty Acid

100x the Vitamin A of Carrots

50x the Iron of Spinach

10x the Beta Carotene of Carrots

7x the Calcium of Milk

6x the Protein of Eggs

3x More Iron Than Beef

Rich in Phytonutrients and antioxidants

Wheat Grass:

Detoxifies the liver

Cleanses the colon

Leads to a tangible energy boost

Boosts the immune system

Purifies blood as Chlorophyll has similar molecular structure to hemoglobin – a component of blood

Very rich in chlorophyll

Contains 97 enzymes, vitamins, phytochemicals and minerals in treatment of cancer

Contains more protein per once than beef.

This smoothie is definitely a keeper :-) The nutritional value on this smoothie is just out of this world so I hope you try it. If you are interested in drinking your nutrition here are other smoothies you may like as well:

This smoothie was very creamy and thick. If you like it more liquid/juice like consistency stay tuned for other variations I will be making with this :-) By the way I didn’t use chia seeds this time around, I forgot :-)

These could also be frozen really well and eaten as a treat. The kids would love them….or at least mine do :-)

This smoothie is packed with great properties. The honey and the ginger of set the wheat grass flavor which it simply tastes like grass, not my kind of flavor :-)

Next time I use wheat powder I think I will also add parsley that has great antioxidant properties, and mint and ginger as well as lemon juice to mask the wheat grass flavor. It will be a more juice texture type of smoothie so stay tuned!!
