One banana has about 5 gr of fructose and 5 gr of glucose. While the fructose takes longer than glucose to digest it is a natural sugar. 1 cup of blueberries, watermelon etc also contains about the same amt of fructose one banana has. I love bananas. I normally use them to sweetened my smoothies. I probably use 2 bananas to make a smoothie mixture that will serve 4-5 people so I am not too worry about it :-) Bananas are certainly higher in total sugar than many other fruits but since I only used them in smoothies they don't bother me at all. Have you tried dried prunes or dried dates? They are also good and can sweetened smoothies rather good. Thanks for visiting my blog.

Great recipe! I have a question for you though, since you are a dietitian. I read quite often from reliable sources that bananas contain far too much fructose and once blended and drunk, are basically just sugar. For this reason, I tend to make my daily smoothies with just water, low carb low fat protein powder, soy milk and a handful of mixed berries.

What are your thoughts?
